Training for Educators on AI Tools in Education
How educators can use Gemini, Gemini Notebook, and Google Drive to prepare educational materials and save time.
At the invitation of the OSCE, I conducted a training session for educators in journalism from universities in Tajikistan. We discussed various tools, particularly the recognition of generated content using AI detectors, as well as working with Google services: Gemini, Google Drive, and Gemini Notebook.
We paid special attention to Gemini Notebook. It assists educators in their academic activities: in preparing and reviewing educational materials. I demonstrated how to create infographics, presentations, flashcards, and quizzes for knowledge assessment, as well as how to develop educational programs using this tool.
We also explored the capabilities of Gemini as a personal assistant. It helps structure information, interacts with other Google services, and simplifies file, email, and calendar management. I showed how to use Gemini to create a study program: it not only develops the program itself but also finds relevant YouTube videos, incorporates them into the program, and saves the result as a Google document in Google Drive. I also demonstrated how Gemini works with Google Drive and can find necessary files when needed.
Additionally, we discussed the integration of Gemini with the Chrome browser: it helps access useful information from websites in different languages and translate educational materials into Tajik. On YouTube, I showcased the built-in chat feature of Gemini. It allows users to quickly obtain a summary of videos and understand what the speakers are discussing, significantly saving time. This chat also helps structure information from videos and provides organized knowledge immediately.
The training was conducted as part of the OSCE initiative in Tajikistan to promote media freedom, strengthen professional journalism, and expand access to information in the country. As part of this effort, a week-long training program for journalism educators was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Science from November 2, 2026, in Dushanbe. The program aims to enhance the methodological, pedagogical, and professional competencies of educators and to align academic programs with modern industry practices, including the pedagogical and practical application of artificial intelligence in journalism.
