Jilo Studio Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 10, 2026.
Jilo Studio is an open-source video editor for the Mac. We do not collect personal data: the app has no accounts, analytics, ads or telemetry.
Your projects and files
Projects, video, audio, transcripts and captions stay on your Mac. Settings, auto-saves and logs are kept locally in ~/Library/Application Support/com.rustamguloff.jilostudio and are not sent anywhere.
When the app uses the network
- Model downloads. When you choose to download a speech recognition model (Whisper) or the voices for narration, the app downloads files from Hugging Face. As with any download, the server sees your IP address. None of your files are sent.
- Cloud AI (optional). If you choose a cloud engine (Google Gemini or OpenAI) in Settings ▸ AI and run a feature with it, the app sends that provider only what the feature needs: pieces of audio for recognition, or the text of the transcript and captions for translation, highlights and YouTube texts. Before the first time, the app asks for your permission and shows how much audio will go out. Requests go directly to the provider under your own API key and are handled under its terms: Google, OpenAI. Nothing passes through us.
- Links. Links in the Help menu open in your web browser.
By default, speech recognition runs on your Mac and sends nothing.
API keys
The Google Gemini and OpenAI keys you enter are stored only on your Mac, in the ai.json file in the app's data folder, readable only by your user account. Keys never go into projects or logs and are never sent to us. You can delete a key in Settings ▸ AI with Remove Key.
Error reports
Logs and crash reports are written only on your Mac. We receive them only if you send them yourself by email or attach them to an issue on GitHub.
Deleting data
All of the app's data is in ~/Library/Application Support/com.rustamguloff.jilostudio. Delete it together with the app and nothing is left on your computer. Your projects and media stay wherever you saved them.
Children
The app collects no data about anyone, including children.
Changes
If a new version of the app adds a new network request (for example, checking GitHub for updates), it will be described here before that version is released.
